From Glasgow (about 1 hour 30, roughly 58 miles): take the M8, then the A82 up the western shore of Loch Lomond. At Tarbet, bear left onto the A83 and follow it over the Rest and Be Thankful — one of the great Highland passes — then down alongside Loch Fyne into Inveraray. From the south, leave the M74 at junction 4, follow the M8 to the Erskine Bridge (junction 30) and pick up the A82. From Edinburgh, allow around 2 hours 30. The A83 runs straight through the town.

Finding us and parking: coming from the town centre, carry on past TOR's front door, take the next right, then right again onto The Avenue, and follow it round to our private car park at the rear. There's no charging point at TOR, but there are several in Inveraray and along the route — the Zap-Map app lists them. Cycling here? We've secure bike storage on site — just let us know in advance

Scottish Citylink runs direct from Glasgow's Buchanan Bus Station several times a day — the 926 (towards Campbeltown) and the 976 (towards Oban) both stop in Inveraray, on Front Street, a short walk from us. The journey takes around 1 hour 40, and the run down Loch Lomond and over the Rest and Be Thankful is half the pleasure. Book ahead at citylink.co.uk for the best fares and a guaranteed seat, especially in summer.

There's no railway station in Inveraray itself — the simplest rail route is to Glasgow, then the Citylink bus above. If you'd rather stay on the train, the West Highland Line from Glasgow Queen Street reaches Dalmally (about 15 miles away) or Oban (about 38 miles), with connecting buses on to Inveraray — more leisurely, but a beautiful journey.

Glasgow Airport is the nearest, about 1 hour 30 by road — head for the Erskine Bridge and pick up the A82/A83 as above. Edinburgh Airport is roughly 2 hours 30. Hire cars are available at both, and from there it's the drive described under Car.

Loch Fyne is Scotland's longest sea loch, and arriving by water is one of the finest ways to come to us. Inveraray Pier is open to marine traffic, and the pier's own site lists moorings, berthing and services right around the loch and the Clyde — including fuller deep-water facilities at Portavadie and at Tarbert Harbour further down Loch Fyne: inveraraypier.scot/mooring-and-berthing.
